Colchester Castle

The nearest mainline station is Colchester. From Colchester station, the castle is approximately a 17-minute walk east. Exit the station onto North Station Road, proceed south, then turn left onto Middleborough. Continue onto St Peter's Street, then High Street, before entering Castle Park via Museum Street or the main High Street entrance.

Colchester town centre is served by numerous local bus routes. Key bus stops are located on High Street (routes including 8, 8a, 61, 62, 65, 74) and Priory Street (routes including 61, 62, 74, 75), both within a 5-minute walk of the castle park entrances.

Several pay-and-display car parks are available within a 10-minute walk. Priory Street Car Park (CO1 2QL) and St Mary's Car Park (CO3 3AA) are common options. Fees apply, and congestion can be high during peak times, particularly on weekends. Advance booking is not typically available for these public car parks.

The primary entrance for public events is often via the main museum entrance within Castle Park. Queue arrangements are usually managed outside the designated entry point, depending on event size. Bag searches are routinely conducted upon entry. It is advisable to arrive 20-30 minutes before the advertised door time to allow for security checks and to navigate the park to the entrance.
