A walk from the station would be approximately 45 minutes, heading north along North 3rd Street and then west on Sangamon Avenue.

The Sangamon Mass Transit District (SMTD) operates routes that serve the vicinity of the Fairgrounds. During the annual Illinois State Fair, specific seasonal bus routes often provide more direct access to the Fairgrounds' various gates. Standard SMTD routes, such as Route 10 (North 5th Street) and Route 4 (Sangamon Avenue), have stops within a 5-10 minute walk of certain fairground entrances.

Extensive parking is available on-site at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, with numerous designated lots accessible via perimeter gates including Gates 1, 2, 6, and 10. Fees are generally charged per vehicle per day during major events and the annual fair. Congestion can be considerable during peak event times, especially for Grandstand performances, so arriving in advance is strongly advised. Entry to the Grandstand for ticketed events is usually through specific gates immediately adjacent to the venue, separate from general fairground admission gates.
