How do I get to Slane Castle, Slane?
Slane Castle is at Slane Castle, Slane, Co. Meath. Open in Google Maps
By train and tube
The nearest station is Drogheda MacBride, about 15 km east of the castle on the Dublin–Belfast line. There is no railway at Slane itself.
- From Dublin: Trains from Connolly to Drogheda MacBride take about 35 minutes and run through the day.
- From Belfast: Enterprise and Translink services call at Drogheda MacBride.
- The last leg: Concert coaches run from Drogheda MacBride and from Dublin on show days and are sold through the promoter. Taxis out of Drogheda are scarce once the gates open.
By bus
Slane sits on the N51 between Drogheda and Navan, and the village is a short walk from the castle gates.
- Bus Éireann 109: Dublin Busáras to Cavan by way of Slane, running through the day.
- Concert coaches: Return coaches to Slane run from Dublin, Drogheda, Belfast and the larger regional towns on show days, sold with or alongside the ticket.
- Leaving: Coaches load from the field on the Navan side of the village, and the walk out of the concert field takes 30–45 minutes at the end of a sold-out night.
By car and parking
Slane is signposted from the M1 and the N2 on show days, and a one-way system takes traffic through the village.
- From Dublin: M1 north to the Drogheda exit, then the N51 west — about 50 km.
- From Belfast: A1 and M1 south to Drogheda, then the N51 west.
- Parking: Event parking is in marshalled fields off the N51, charged per car and sold in advance for most concerts.
- Leaving: The fields empty in a staged order after a concert and the wait can run past midnight.
Accessibility
Slane's concert field is grassland that slopes down to the River Boyne, so the ground is uneven and soft after rain.
- Accessible viewing: A raised viewing platform is provided for wheelchair users and for people who cannot stand for long periods.
- How to book: Accessible places and companion tickets are arranged with the promoter before the show rather than bought on general sale.
- Accessible parking: Blue-badge parking is in a field beside the accessible entrance and is allocated when you book.
- Assistance dogs: Assistance dogs are admitted.
Wheelchair users should expect to cross grass between the car park and the platform.
