How do I get to Vrijthof Maastricht, Maastricht?
Vrijthof Maastricht is at Vrijthof, Maastricht, 6211 LD. Open in Google Maps
By train and tube
Maastricht Centraal Station is the primary rail hub, served by national and international connections. From the station, the Vrijthof is a 17-minute walk west. Exit the station onto Stationsstraat, cross the Wilhelminabrug over the Meuse River, then continue west along Maastrichter Brugstraat, turning left onto Grote Staat and then right onto Bredestraat to reach the square's eastern flank.
By bus
Numerous Arriva city bus routes serve stops within a short walk of Vrijthof. The "Vrijthof" bus stop itself is immediately adjacent to the square, serviced by local routes. Other nearby stops include "Helmstraat" and "Markt", providing connections from across the city and wider region.
By car and parking
Several paid parking garages are available. The "Q-Park Vrijthof" garage is located directly beneath the square, though it can become congested during major events. Alternative options within a 10-minute walk include "Q-Park Mosae Forum" (north-east of the square via Muntstraat) and "Q-Park Bassin" (north, accessible via Boschstraat). For major events, advance booking is highly recommended, and parking at "Q-Park Cabergerweg" (north-west, 15-minute walk) with a potential shuttle service is sometimes advised to mitigate city centre traffic.
Entry and security
For ticketed events, entry points are typically clearly signposted around the perimeter of the Vrijthof, with specific gates for different ticket types or seating zones. Queue arrangements can be extensive for high-demand events; arriving 60-90 minutes before the scheduled start time is recommended to navigate security checks and bag policies, which are standard and rigorously enforced.
